Andy Murray let victory slip through his grasp at the Shanghai Masters as he lost Tuesday's second round match with Fabio Fognini.

The three-time Grand Slam champion produced arguably his best performance in singles competition since hip resurfacing surgery at the start of the year as he pushed world No.12 Fognini the distance in China.
Having seen off Juan Ignacio Londero in three sets in Monday's first round, Murray found himself in another three-set marathon against Fognini, the Italian edging the tie break 7-4 to take the first set.
Murray bounced back to level the match with a dominant performance in the second set but failed to claim the marquee win he's been searching for since his singles comeback as he failed to serve out twice when 5-4 and 6-5 ahead.
In a heated decider in which Murray yelled at his opponent, Fognini was able to take the third set to a tie break before eventually claiming a 7-6 (7-4) 2-6 7-6 (7-2) win.
There was more British disappointment in Shanghai earlier on Tuesday when Cameron Norrie was comfortably beaten by US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev 6-3 6-1.
